Instrument demonstration: Djembe and Guitar. Kenny and Andy played several selections from Andy’s CD Room for Roots (on which Kenny played), a new Andy May arrangement of the John Hartford classic Gentle on My Mind, and took questions from the audience in this informal workshop.
Kenny’s drums were tuned to E, G, A, B, and C, and he demonstrated playing melodies and harmonies on them using both muffled and unmuffled tones. Then, with Andy playing guitar and singing, he showed how to play the changes when accompanying an artist using different low and high combinations and long and short sounds. It was fascinating!
The program took place in the elegant Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Rotunda.
