Andy: Writing material for and with artists that I have produced has given me many songs that I enjoy singing myself. This is one.  (… credits, lyrics)

Lauren: I love writing about relationships with a twist. Our client, Ronnie Young, came to us with this song started, and I had a blast fleshing out the lyrics while Andy did the same with the music. It’s based on a person Ron once knew (with a great deal of embellishment), but we’ve all known a Ruby Lee at one time or another….

Haggard and the Queen

Andy: This song is a short chapter in my book of true road stories, dedicated to my late friend and band-mate, Tabby Crabb. Tabby and I opened for Merle Haggard and The Strangers – with Leona Williams and Bonnie Owens – in 1978. About that time, we also played a private event held for Kitty Wells, “The Queen of Country Music” and her husband, Johnnie Wright. I am glad to have been a little part of all of that!  (… more, credits, lyrics)

Stone Soup from Hard Times

© Lyrics: Lauren LeCroy MayMusic: Andy May (Swift River Music/BMI)
Lauren:  This lyric actually combines two trains of thought I had been entertaining when I wrote it. It started with the thought that even when you’re broke, you can enjoy a beautiful day as much as anyone. That got me thinking of other things that enrich our lives yet cost us nothing: Relationships, memories, sunshine, singing, dreams….  (more)   Andy:  I loved the lyric that Lauren came up with for this song from the first time that I read it. To me, it talked about the challenges and triumphs that we all face in relationships, and the importance of remembering that many of the things we have in our lives don’t cost a thing and yet are priceless. That is what I had in mind when I set out to write the music for this piece.  (… more, credits, lyrics)

Life’s a Gig

©Andy May (Swift River Music/BMI)

I have watched as a remarkable group of folks my age and older (some of whom I am lucky enough to call friends) navigate the challenges of life and the marketplace and live life fully. “My old friend” in this song is really a mix of a bunch of folks: Men and women I know or have observed who have impressed me over the last few years. With age has come wisdom and humility, and their music has stayed fresh and fun.  —AM  (… more, credits, lyrics)
